A BRIEF HISTORY

The Beginning

The Trust and the Academy have been established in memory of late Shri R. K. Sanjiv Rao, who was a popular leader of the area, a freedom fighter, an active social worker and well-known educationist. Inspired by his ideals and achievements, the Trust and the Academy were established by his family members, friends, associates and local people to conduct various welfare activities which were close to his heart viz. education, medical aid and promotion of folk arts and fine arts, poverty alleviation, helping people in distress, etc.

The institutions have conducted dental and medical camps, assisted the physically handicapped, awarded scholarships, provided school rooms and equipment to schools in the vicinity, assisted people in distress etc., besides establishing an English Medium School in the area in response to local aspirations. This was the first school of its kind between Kundapur and Bhatkal a stretch of 50 kilometers, to fulfill a long felt need of the local people.

“SANDEEPAN” by which name the school is known made a humble beginning by establishing a pre-primary school in 1988, housed in a temporary building provided by the family of late Shri R. K. Sanjiv Rao. Primary section was started a year later and the High School section was added in the year 2001.

The school was initially set-up in a small building of about 1500 square feet provided by the family members of late Shri R. K. Sanjiv Rao. As the school grew, the building was woefully inadequate for the requirements of the School and this had been a major constraint for the growth of the school. Lack of facilities like a laboratory, library etc., again owing to inadequate accommodation, have also inhibited the growth. In view of this, a project of expansion was undertaken in two phases at a cost of Rs. 16,600,000/-.

First Phase of the Project

The Academy is fortunate to have been provided prime land of about 1.5 acres by the family of late Shri R. K. Sanjiv Rao. The land is located on National Highway 17, in Nagoor, Kirimanjeshwar Village, which is less than 1 km from the earlier location of the school. While a piece of land admeasuring about 0.30 acres (about 13000 sq ft) is gifted to the Academy, rest of the land is being given on long lease on a nominal lease rent for playground.

A building with 20 classrooms, a library & reading room, open air stage and toilet blocks was constructed in two stages – eight rooms in the first stage and the rest in the second stage. The school has accommodation of a total built up area of over 16,000 sq ft. Modern classroom furniture, two playpens - one open and one covered have been provided for the children of the kindergarten classes. The school owns three vehicles to ferry students from places as far as 30 kilometers.

Computer training for students has been arranged by implementing the “NIIT @ School” programme of the leading computer training company – NIIT.
